I'm sure the gas station on Overgrown is gonna be a booster-fest. ;)

I see a lot of potential spots on all the new maps. If anyone happens to come across overhead views of the new maps, please send me a link.

I played my very first FFA game on Bailout last night and there were boosters! They were in the corner of the upper parking lot, near the spawn. I will need to get my hands on maps to start marking the spots. I killed them early in the game and they immediately left the lobby.

A few games later there were more on Salvage. They were moving all around the map and I don't know it well enough to even describe the spots. Next round was Underpass and I sent them a message saying "I know all of your hiding spots on this map", and proceeded to kill them in 4 different common booster locations. They stayed in the game 1 more round on Estate and I followed them around again.

I have a feeling that the boosters that were getting bored and going to be out in full force while the new maps are still unfamiliar to everyone.

Will deffo =+rep this when i get home (work pc doesn't let me give rep for some reason).

Boosters should be taken out every game. The more times we make it impossible for them to pull that shitty stunt the less times they will do it.

I enjoy killing boosters because they bring nothing to the game apart from a cheat or an exploit. They need to be removed.

Even if i went and died more times than i killed in games, if the only kills i got were boosters i would be happy.

This guide is a must for anyone who wants to go Booster Busting. _O_

This might have been mentioned, but there is a sitrep bug in FFA. If it were fixed catching boosters would be easy. Even though it's free for all you still spawn as 1 of 2 team outfits, and you can only see the one "team's" equipment. Namely the tactical insertions.

Thanks for pointing this out. I had just read about it in another thread. It looks like all of the guides have been edited to give proper credit to their original authors. I am all for spreading information about boosters, but at least acknowledge that someone else did the work you are claiming as your own. This guy even said things like "it took me a lot of time to write this", etc... O*/

Is this actually a confirmed glitch? Because I play a lot of FFA and almost always use Sitrep. I cannot think of a single instance where I was unable to see an enemy claymore or Tactical Insertion.

Thanks!

On another note. There seems to be an increase in boosters in FFA again, maybe because of the stimulus release. I have found quite a few spots on the new maps so far.

Overgrown - This map is just booster heaven. Pretty much anywhere around the outside perimeter of the map has a corner to hide in. In or behind the gas station. Under one of the bridges. You name a spot and it's a potential for boosting.

Crash - Hard to describe without a map. But I have found them hiding under stairs in 2 different buildings. In the very small alley behind the building at the top of the map (across from the car lift).

Salvage - No real great spots on this map. But there are a few out of the way pathways that are less traveled, with boxes to hide behind.

Storm - Surprisingly, there don't seem to be that many well hidden spots on this map.

Bailout - In the back corner of the parking lot at the top of the map. Under the bridge: There were 2 boosters here sitting in opposite corners shooting from a distance. I even found 2 guys trying to boost in the tiny closet of one of the upstairs rooms. Not really big enough to hide in, but they were trying anyway. There is also a way to get through the windows onto the ledge above the large staircase. This is a potentially dangerous boosting spot because it's very difficult to get people down from there.

I tried google to see if I could find anything on it, and I couldn't. I could definitely be wrong here but I remember trying to hunt a nuke booster with it and I couldn't see the tactical insertions, no matter where I was. My friend told me that even though it's FFA you still spawn as one of two team skins (seals, tf141, whatever) and you can only see the enemy teams equipment. It might have just been me though, maybe someone else can confirm this?

If the boosters are working quickly and only the one getting killed plants his TI, they can be very difficult to see. The TI will be active for less than a second before he is killed, respawns, and then has to set another one. If you are not looking at the exact right time, it can be very easy to miss.

I'm a booster hunter and i've made a montage, search for " Modern Warfare 2: Booster Ownage " on Youtube ;)
It's my first ever montage and it is pretty basic but i hope you'll enjoy it! Most of the kill where made with C4 to complete the Multi C4 challenge. I will made a second montage that will be way better in the futur ;)

Nice video! The Javalin is so much fun to use against boosters. I really need to start playing around with C4 more often. How do you throw it and detonate so quickly?

On another note, I was nuked yesterday on Overgrown. I was in literally my first game after prestiging, so I didn't even have access to my custom classes. I was running from the big barn across the creek and heard a tactical insertion. I assumed they were in the corner behind the fence, but nobody was there. I was then killed from on top of the roof. They were on top of the building to the left of the covered bridge if you are facing away from the barn. Because of the height of the roof and the fact that it's flat, I could not get an angle on them and didn't have semtex so my grenades were bouncing off. Keep an eye out for this spot. They are almost impossible to see up there and even harder to kill.

Gotta sing pberge's praises one more time. Genius guide! And thanks for continued responses to all the posts. And thanks to everyone else—even Himura—for joining in!

It's been a while since I checked the forums and this thread. Did Himura ever friend request pberge for the booster hunter showdown? Did he get his clock cleaned? His diapers changed? I'm guessing the request never came and, if it did, no nuke happened.

I've been hunting a lot lately. The hate mail keeps pouring in. I love it. As it has been said above, booster hunting is my main source of enjoyment these days. Once a message comes in you can use it to view gamertag and join their future games at anytime. Great idea I picked up in an earlier post. If they don't message you, instigate. Get a response. One guy filed a complaint against me for tampering with his console. Just couldn't figure out how I found him after he left the first lobby. O, how he sulked without his nuke. Had me giggling for hours.

Couple more hints for identifying boosters in the lobby:

  • Listen for the high, squeaking pre-pubescent voices in the lobby. Stay in that lobby a couple of matches. Soon enough you’ll hear one solicit another for help boosting. The little ones love the circle jerks.
  • Look for multiple X’s in the gamertag; upper case, lower case, at the beginning, middle, and/or end of the tag. Often the letter surrounds some version of “skaterkid”. Weird, huh? But often true. Pre-pubescent rides board with wheels to circle session. Shocker, I know.
  • A lot of FFA lobbies nobody uses a mic—except for the lone two mic symbols. And those two never light up. They're likely in a party chat. Those two will likely boost. Not all the time but it’s a good sign.

Combine all three and you’ll probably find boosters. Squeaky voices with Xtreme skater gamer tags who disappear into party chat.

That said, here’s this: seems, recently, most players have capitulated. Boosting is scene as a legit, if mildly annoying, form of gameplay. Its just a tactical decision.

In the last week I encountered two teams of boosters who remained in the lobby for over an hour. I busted them 3-4x a match. They set over and over, anywhere. It was great since they both carried tac inserts—kill em both, spawn, kill em both again. Four consecutive kills lead me to a couple good killstreaks.

First it was fun. Then it got boring, then annoying, then I left. I never leave a boosting lobby, but I did.

Its recreational boosting.

One pair used it as a form of camping. A camper camps, gets a few kills then slaughters all who come hunting. I’ve used this tactic myself—camping. I thinks it’s a valid defensive version of play; it really pisses other player’s off, true, but it works if you're good.

Well, this pair did it camping with tac inserts and boosting. They’d boost til someone (me) caught on and alerted other players then they’d quit, spread out, and kill anybody approaching. Somebody would eventually kill either or both of them. They got no nuke and barely even a harrier but they got kills, a lot of them.

I’ve always viewed camping as a wily approach to winning. I don’t do it all the time but I do it. Maybe adding a tac insert and an accomplice IS a legit way to royally piss off others and get them streaming into your kill zone.

I am a good player; not great. I can’t lay waste to these recreational types all the time. Like good campers they know you're coming and cover all the approach routes.

I can solidly guarantee they won’t get a nuke but I can’t stop ‘em entirely. I’ve even stopped filing complaints.

MS Xbox Live and IW have done nothing . . . at all. Maybe this tactical/recreational boosting is a pissy but legit tactic. What do you all think?

Nice post semiautic. And thanks again for your support in this thread. The more people that share their tips, the easier it will be for all of us to hunt these boosters.

I have gotten into a few lobbies where the boosters were not doing a very good job and coming nowhere near their nuke, but still winning the games in most cases. After a while it just gets frustrating and there were a few occasions when I made the decision to just move on. It's very rare that the boosters will outlast me.

A few months back I ran into a pair that were doing pretty much what you described in your post. They would team up, both put down tactical insertions, and take control of an area. As far as I could tell, they were not killing each other, so I can't technically call it boosting. Either way, they would take control of an area that was easy to defend and watch each others backs. They were racking up tons of kills because once everyone realized where they were, it was like a game to get them.

They were not technically doing anything wrong. You could argue that creating a team in FFA is unfair, but I honestly had to admire their tactics because they were still playing with skill. Not just sitting in a corner shooting at a stationary target. And that is where I have to draw the line. If you want to team up with someone and give yourself a tactical advantage, that's not such a big deal. But if your opponents are not putting up a fight, you just need to learn to play the game better. I just don't see how it's even fun after a certain point. What really drives me crazy are the boosters that don't even try to hide it and you see them huddled in a corner killing each other in the game winning killcam. It's just pathetic.

Note: I ran a test and you have exactly 1:30 seconds until you get kicked form the game. However you wont be kicked from the game if you choose a class and then go inactive :o

Nice picture guides lol. I've already found boosters a few times on "Bailout". Kinda hard to describe without pics but they were hiding at the bottom of one of the spawns, under the bridge. One on each side of the road and they were using a silenced barratt. Killed them a few times before they quit. xD

Thank you both. The more booster hunters playing the game, the better off we all are.
Jake, I know exactly the spot on bailout that you are talking about. One day, when I get my hands on good copies of the new maps, I will get these new spots marked.

Thanks Dale. But I could swear I have been kicked with 8:40 on the clock, which would mean 1:20 seconds. I think the time is actually made longer if you are the host of the game, but there is no way to know that ahead of time.

Of course once you select a class, you can sit in a corner for the duration of the match and not get kicked. The main reason for not selecting a class is to get into spectator mode and find the boosters without having to run around looking in all of their hiding spots.

I think that was me, it was a couple moths ago now. I found this website and looked at the nuke boost hunting page and saw that, I LOLd for at least a minute.
Yea, I was going for lightweight pro FYI.

I actually found some boosters on scrapyard the other day, they were in the building where the B bomb site is. They didn't get far.

I need hunting help on Overgrown.

In an earlier post pberge mentioned a rooftop to the left of the bridge as you cross going from the barn toward the buildings on the other side of the gully. There are two buildings. The first on the left you cannot enter. It has a torn up rooftop. The second, on the edge of the map, you can enter. Its roof is intact. Boosters use the fence running along the top of the gully to reach both rooftops.

The second rooftop has a surface completely out-of-view from any spot on the map. It is on the outermost edge of the map.

How do you knock them down without the Javelin? Can the Javelin do it? If so, where is the best spot to stand to launch?

Without the javelin can you toss C4? I tried several times with semtex but couldn't get the angle right. There is no line of sight to shoot them down. Or is there?

Somebody eventually got one of them. I knew one of the boosters was going to head back so I camped the fence that they use to get to the rooftop and picked him off as he tried to run along it (it drove him nuts; went into a frenzy trying to track me down and kill me). I suppose I could learn the trick of hopping on the fence to get there myself. Learning map acrobatics, though, to get to that one spot that is usually worthless for anything but boosting . . . its not my thing.

Help!

I don't like booster hunting, because it doesn't conform with my extremely stationary tactics in FFA. When someone boosts, I try to hunt them if they are near, but when I realize I have to move to the other side of the map, it is futile, and I quit.

Hunting or quitting are the only ways to deal with this plague. Lucky it happens only in 1/4th of my FFA matches. And right now it is the main game mode I play.

If you see boosters in ground war or whatever and the guy going for a nuke is on your team, kill his teammate and then stay beside him and fuck up for him. Kill his buddy if he comes back. Fire an unsilenced weapon repeatedly so that hopefully you'll give away his (and your own lol) position and get him killed.

I've stopped a couple of boosters this way but thankfully I rarely see them outside of ffa.

I actually found some boosters in a new spot on Sub base. Just in front the control room just over the ledge of the Dry Docks there are some wooden platforms they can stand on.

Hey just another tip I was hoping you guys would add: When they are using any killstreaks DIE BY IT because when your watching the killcam press start to see the map and you can see the nuke boosters location die by AC-130s, Chopper Gunners, Pavelows, Harriars, Sentry Guns etc
then press start to see there POV - Point of View and you have there teams/own location this a very useful I would like you to add to the "Hunting Nuke Boosters" Guide.
Thanks in Advance.

I have a class you guys might enjoy! it's fast, deadly and... Quick?

Prim. weapon: MP5K - silenced
Sec: Weapon: PP200 - silenced

Equipment: Throwing knife - Can't knife a booster? Then throw it at him instead!

Perk 1: Marathon (pro) - so you cna quickly reach your target without running our of breath
Perk 2: Cold blood (pro) - no stupid guy with thermal, chopper gunner, AC-130 and etc. wont be able to spot you and the "feign death" trick can be done effectivly.
Perk 3: SitRep (no idea what pro does, but probably nice to have) - Easier to find those guy, as the posts over emntions.

Why do I think this class works good? Mostly because MP5K is good at close range, it's harder to find you AND you finds those bastards quickly.

Thanks for the attention. :)

Thanks for all the recent posts and for pushing this guide to over 100 reps! I have been gone from the site for a while and dealing with some personal issues, but will do my best to address any posts I missed over the last few weeks.
